That's why today's overdue post about lingerie is focusing on TOTALLY BOSS nylon stockings!!! So girls grab your garters and hold on tight (wink wink)!
According to a TOTALLY BOSS article on the History Channel's website, nylons were introduced by the Dupont Company creating an almost overnight sensation. The company, after a successful marketing campaign that focused on nylons as "run-proof" and "stronger than steel", sold a mind boggling 5 million pairs on their commercial debut.
Most fashion forward retro gals know that during WWII there were rations on nylons and women resorted to all sorts of tactics to get by until the end of the war in 1945. These desperate measures included ingenious ideas like drawing in seams up the back of old pairs of stockings with eye liner pencils (ask a fabulous gal from the greatest generation and they will tell you its true...I know because I did).
When DuPont resumed production, they could not immediately meet the overwhelming demand of American women resulting in near riots at major retailers. It would not be until the following year that DuPont was able to raise production levels high enough to put a halt to the nylon hysteria (according to the History Channel article...that was 30 million pairs a month).

Like weddings... prom is all about the dress. With this nation-wide, springtime frenzy fast approaching, I thought it might be a good opportunity to talk about retro formal wear (as many of you are already beginning to save up and shop for that perfect ensemble). There are several advantages to purchasing a retro dress...
A) You are less likely to be wearing the exact same dress as someone else (this happens at almost EVERY prom to at least one set of unlucky girls).

I don't know if y'all happened to catch it but several times this season on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style women were told that the average bra's lifespan should be no more than 6 months!!! 6 months???!!! This was earth shattering news to me. At $30-60 bucks a pop it can be really tempting to hang on to bras long after they've lost their shape. Also, a good bra-like a good man-can be hard to find. One of my New Years resolutions was to collect a ridiculous number of under pinnings of all varieties. Thats why Mondays are going to be lingerie day at That's SO BOSS...

Viva Pencil Skirts!
Lately, I've been seeing Pencil Skirts EVERYWHERE... which is totally boss because so are they! I'm on the short side of life and generally stylists in print and on television say girls like me should steer clear of longer skirts because they tend to make you look even shorter. I beg to differ. The New Look
In 1947 Christian Dior introduced The New Look. For me, this dramatic, ultra-feminine silloutte is the essence of sexy-chic. While searching for a modern day equivilant for work, I found this fascinating article about Dior on the Design Museum Website. As a Graphic Designer and some-time painter, it always amazes me how inspiring art from completely different mediums of expression can inspire and influence one's work. I dug a little deeper and was able to find the location of Dior's New Look bar suit housed in the permenant collection of the Metropolitan Museum of New York's Costume Institute.

"Ask Me Makeup"
Creating that perfect pin up look can be very difficult... especially if you are makeup challenged like me (seriously...I use a mascara wand like a baseball bat most mornings).
Luckily for me I stumbled on this totally boss video blog "Ask Me Makeup" on YouTube the other day.
