Retro Hair A.K.A. The War to End All Wars
Annie's Number 1 Hair Tip: Shampoo your hair once a week. It has literally changed my life. My hair is so much healthier now that I only shampoo on Sundays. Basically, my daily routine now includes shampooing just my bangs (because if I didn't they would be super oily) and conditioning the rest. I only use all natural products (safe enough to eat) as well. I'm going to warn you though. The transition takes about 1-2 weeks, but the results will be totally worth it.
Getting my hair right has been the ultimate rockabilly challenge for me. I have very fine, wavy hair that can be quite difficult to work with. I had been doing a Brigette Bardot style, but recently cut it much shorter for the summer. I thought that would mean the end of retro hair for me, but then I realized that Joan from Mad Men's hair is just about the same length. Now I just need some hot rollers. Seriously, what proper Texas girl does not own a set of hot rollers. I really should have my driver's license revoked for that alone. My friend Heather is going to be heating things up very soon with a story (maybe several stories-if I can twist her arm) about her own adventures in retro hair land-so keep your eye out for that. Anna May Wong was the very first Chinese American movie star. You're So Charming!
One of my favorite 50's fads is the wearing of charm bracelets. They combine several things I love: travel, adventure stories, and-most importantly-jewelry. I have two of my own. One is Egyptian themed. I haven't been yet, but I'm a big fan. The second is Livestock Show themed. Its actually going to morph into a life's travel and adventure bracelet as soon as I start adding some more charms to it. Currently, it has a hog and a Texas on it (Soon, I'll be able to add a couple of NYC charms, and a Space Needle).
Did you know that charm bracelets have been around since ancient times when wearers strung several amulets together to ward off the evil eye or to bring good luck? I didn't. Totally boss, right?

I LOVE dogs. I love small dogs. I love big dogs. I love smart dogs. I love trick-challenged dogs. I love guard dogs. I love lap dogs. Let me reiterate-I LOVE dogs. My favorite dog is Gigi, my 5 year old Lab /Holstein Elephant Mix.
Many, many moons ago, I was waitressing at Bennigan's until 2 or 3 in the morning every night. Gigi was just a wee pup... well, lets be honest, Gig was never what one would call "wee". Anyways, I was working my tail off and would pull double shifts all the time. I lived close to the restaurant so allot of the time I would go home for a break between the lunch and dinner rush. I guess Gigi knew if was staying or leaving because if I was staying I always got out of my french fry smelling green polo shirt and black slacks and into my turtle print pajama pants as soon as I got home. Well, one night, I guess she'd had enough of being a latch-key pup because when I got home super late and was too exhausted to do anything but flop down in the closet chair, Gigi abruptly ran upstairs. She returned carrying my pj pants in her mouth and dropped them helpfully and hopefully at my feet.
