Howdy All!

I've made a promise to one of my best friends and I intend to keep it... so I'm back blogging. I wanted to let y'all in on some of the changes to Thatssoboss.com that you will be seeing over the next few weeks & months.

My friend Casey at StyledOn.com, told me to do this years ago, but after a couple of failed imports, I got a little overwhelmed and gave up. Bringing us up to present- I'm going to keep trying to import my old entries, but my focus will be on putting up daily posts on this site.

Content will still focus on Rockabilly/Retro fashion, but I'll also be transferring my zine The Manifest over to thatssoboss.com. In the past I've interviewed bands such as Ghostland Observatory, Tapes n Tapes, The Cloud Room, The High Strung, The Rosebuds, Swearing at Motorists, Open Choir Fire, and many more. I am really excited about resurrecting this project and I hope you will check it out. I also intend to start covering arts & entertainment in the DFW area. There's a lot of exciting things happening here and I think the world should know about it.

I want to encourage y'all to check out a copy of Vintage Hairstyling by Lauren Rennells. In the small town where I grew up, it was next to impossible to get a decent haircut let alone a vintage style. For years, I struggled to (if you can believe this) explain what Bettie Page bangs were and usually with disastrous results. After years of trial and error, moving away from Bettie (my square jaw just couldn't hide under those bangs) and towards Rita, I have discovered the solution. Finally, someone wrote a book that breaks down vintage hairstyling so a non-professional can recreate these looks at home. Sure, there are tons of video tutorials on YouTube, but they were also problematic for me. The teachers often had much much much longer and healthier hair than I do. Went too fast, went too slow... yadda yadda. In the end, I'd end up with a mess and they had a perfect style. I was always left wondering how it was possible since we seemingly started from the same place. After reviewing Vintage Hairstyling online, I am 100% positive that this is the bridge to perfectly coiffed hair that I have been seeking (plus, its easier to have a book in the bathroom when you're dressing your hair than your computer). The author also writes a helpful blog at: Bobby Pin Blog.

Shoes - Update!

Howdy All,

Well... my Nina Electra wedding shoes came and I have to say... I may need to call off the wedding and marry them. They are pretty much the most beautiful pair of shoes I've ever seen in my life. They fit perfectly and have a sort of snake-skin, gold insole that is lightly padded and super comfy. The lacquer, lipstick red stiletto heel is miles high and the sexy red satin bow make them seem like a present from Aphrodite herself. Amore!!!

Howdy All,

I am really having a hard time being consistent huh? I'm not going to lie, painting my house every color of the rainbow has been keeping me pretty busy. I try and make one wedding decision a week, but that usually turns into a bi-weekly event. Its not retro fashion, but if you have a chance, watch "Say Yes to the Dress" on TLC. Its a really fun, 30min realty show about a very chi chi wedding dress store in NYC. I LOVE seeing so many different women with varying ages, body types, etc being instantly transformed just by putting on a dress. Its definitely a guilty pleasure, but one that won't cause me to put on weight before the big day. My latest decision is to purchase a birdcage veil. I LOVE mantillas, but I just don't think one would go with the look I am trying to achieve. For head wear, I was thinking Marilyn hair with a birdcage veil... maybe. I recently bought the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate lipstick, have you tried it? It's amazing. Last weekend I put it on before work at 4, ate, drank, everything, and it looked perfect. Then, I ate greasy ribs for dinner, and it even survived that with no problem. When I got home at midnight, I took it off, and it removes insanely easily with makeup remover.

It doesn't come off on a glass, or T's lips! It doesn't dry my lips, doesn't require gloss on top to look good or keep from cracking, it feels very light, and dries fast. It does feel a tiny bit sticky if you press your lips together, no matter how long ago you put it on, but it doesn't effect the color or coverage at all.

I'm completely obsessed!

Well, I knew it would happen. After seeing the amazing Liz Claiborne spread in the March issue of Vogue, I knew I would not get my hands on any of the lovely Isaac Mizrahi creations before they started selling out. Why? Because once again Isaac Mizrahi has created a line of beautiful, feminine, retro-inspired dresses, skirts, pants, etc... and several in candy colors for spring!

Now that Liz Claiborne has two of my favorite men in fasion (Tim Gunn, and Isaac), I hardly know what to do with myself.

Also, I wanted to let you all know that I FINALLY purchased "The Golden Age of Couture".

It is worth EVERY penny! It's an absolutely beautiful book full of color prints, fashion sketches, and and and... there aren't enough nice things to say about it. The paperback version is coming out soon and available for pre-order on Amazon for $26.37

On St Patricks Day, our apartment was robbed and one of the items taken was the laptop I do most of my blogging on. We were niave enough to never even entertain the thought that this could happen to us. I want to encourage you, if you don't already, to write down the serial numbers of your technological devices and keep it somewhere safe. Unquestionably, my favorite Wii game is Dr. Mario... HOWEVER, it's New Years Resolutions time and I've got to work off all those cookies I devoured like a trash compactor over the holidays. Last weekend I picked up a copy of the Wii My Fitness Coach and wowee wow, I am super happy with it!

1) It gave me a pretty basic body composition, strength, and flexibility test... then generated a personalized goal and set of workouts.

2) You can unlock workout areas and new music as you complete scheduled workouts.

3) You can adjust the music, sound effects, and voice of the Fitness coach to your liking.

4) The workouts can be made easier or harder by answering questions about how you are feeling during the workout. During my first workout I indicated that many of the sections were "No sweat!", and I could definitely tell that the game had uped the ante the next time I signed in with my profile.

5) You can workout with other people who build profiles on your wii.

6) You can get credit for doing outside excercise.

7) It's CHEAP!

It's awesome... as a matter of fact... I've got a workout scheduled! Bye now!

***Now, be warned, this is a pretty graphic post. If you are even a tiny bit squeamish than proceed no further.

Last week I noticed a very ithcy red bump come up on my back. I've never had skin problems so I didn't pay much attention to it. I probably touched it way too much, and over the next few days it got more irritated and itchy. Irritation and itchiness turned into swelling and pain. Swelling and pain turned into a boil... or as l like to call it-Satan taking up residence inches from my spine. If you ever think you might be getting one of these happy little friends on your person DO NOT attempt to pop it yourself- or let anyone else do it for that matter. In my case, what I should have done was put warm, wet compresses on it several times a day so that the infection to come to the surface and drain in its own time. Instead C and I performed our own home surgery involving a heated up safety pin. Like the vacuum hair trimmer, this was a VERY bad idea. It caused an even worse infection that I had to go to a dermatologist to have taken care of today. I'm going to spare you the more graphic portion of my morning and just reiterate... DO NOT poke your own boils. If it is extremely painful do not wait to seek proper medical attention. Now I'm on the gauze and antibiotics train and out of the pool for weeks. How lame is that?

As you can see from the above photo, Gigi is pretty much the coolest dog in Texas. This is partly due to her totally boss new Lucky Fiona Retro Tattoo print collar. Its super sturdy and came with the cutest little triple 7s charm. These handmade collars are incredibly sturdy and well crafted. Gigi is 70+lbs of pure muscle and energy. Believe you me, you can put the hurtin' on most doggie accessories. After over a month of in the field testing, the collar is still as beautiful as the day we got it. If you have a pampered pooch (or feline-they make cat collars too) I highly recommend these fabulous collars.
